  In the current era of rapid digital development, industrial grade SSD solid state drives are widely used in fields such as industrial automation, national defense, and finance that require strict data security and device stability due to their high reliability, strong earthquake resistance, and fast read and write capabilities. However, when these SSDs become obsolete due to failures, upgrades, or reaching the end of their service life, how to safely destroy the sensitive data stored in them and prevent information leakage becomes an important aspect that cannot be ignored. Here are several common ways to destroy industrial grade SSDs.

  Crush and destroy

  With the help of professional crushing equipment, industrial grade SSDs are directly crushed into small particles. The principle of this method is to use strong mechanical force to completely break the key components such as the circuit board and flash memory chip of the SSD, completely destroy the data storage structure, and make data recovery impossible. The size of the crushed particles can be adjusted according to safety requirements, and the finer the particles, the higher the difficulty of data recovery. It is suitable for scenarios that require extremely high data security and ensure zero information leakage, such as SSD processing involving national secrets and military core data. The advantage is thorough destruction and strong security; The disadvantage is that SSDs cannot be reused, resulting in resource waste, and the crushing process may generate dust pollution, requiring corresponding protective and processing equipment.

  Burning and destruction

  Industrial grade SSDs are incinerated in a high-temperature environment using a high-temperature incinerator. Under high temperature, the plastic casing, circuit board and other materials of SSD rapidly burn and carbonize, and the storage medium in flash memory chips will also melt and denature due to high temperature, completely destroying the data storage layer. The incineration temperature usually needs to reach above 800 ℃ to ensure that the data cannot be recovered. This method is suitable for processing a large number of industrial grade SSDs and can quickly and efficiently destroy data. However, incineration will release harmful gases and cause pollution to the environment. Professional exhaust treatment equipment must be equipped, and the SSD residue after incineration still needs to be properly treated.

  Data erasure

  Utilize professional data erasure software to perform multiple overwrite writes of data in industrial grade SSDs according to specific algorithms. Common erasure algorithms include the US Department of Defense's DOD 5220.22-M standard, the German VSITR standard, etc. By repeatedly overwriting random data, the original data cannot be restored. Data erasure can preserve SSD hardware for future reuse or resale, reducing costs. However, the effectiveness of data erasure is greatly affected by software algorithms and operational standards. If the erasure is not thorough, there is still a risk of data leakage, and the erasure process takes a long time, especially for large capacity SSDs.

  Demagnetization destruction (partially applicable)

  Although some industrial grade SSDs use flash memory chips as the main storage medium, if their circuit boards contain magnetic storage components (such as certain special models of cache modules), demagnetization devices can be used to generate strong magnetic fields, which can destroy the magnetism of the magnetic storage components and cause data loss. However, it should be noted that SSDs with pure flash storage are not sensitive to demagnetization, and demagnetization cannot effectively destroy their data, so their applicability is limited.
